Not Dead

Obviously I haven’t updated in quite a long time. I am also no longer a member of the Second Life mentor group, however I think I will keep this blog up because it still has a lot of helpful points and I may start updating it again when the time is right. There’s just been so much going on right now that I haven’t been able to update, sorry.

About Sculpty Prims

Vlad Bjornson has made various helpful video tutorials on several different subjects. One of the subjects he covers quite frequently is sculpted prims, also known as “sculptie” or “sculpty” prims. He probably has one of the best sculpted tutorials that I have seen yet, so I thought I would share it with you all in hopes that it might help you understand what sculpted prims are all about. Be sure to also check out Vlad’s website and his WeGame page!

Because I cannot seem to get WeGame videos to embed properly, just follow the link:

Eloh Eliot’s Full Perm Skins

Play around with these in Photoshop, or another paint program, and make your own SL skin!
clipped from www.vintfalken.com
Artisans these skins are provided as separate textures and can be used to gain knowledge AND to help the new. Double threat :) If you have an interest in skin making or know any broke avies, don’t miss these designs by the great and generous maker Eloh Eliot. Deck the halls with good looking avatars!
4 Free skin textures for PS experimenting
These 12 free skin textures (each skin exists out of a head texture, a lower body texture and an upper body texture) are full perm, which means you can export them back to RL to play with them – and learn from that – in Photoshop. The way to do this:

  • In Second Life, find the texture you want to copy to your hard drive and open the skin texture so that it shows on your screen.
  • Make sure it’s selected: it should be in front and the frame is dark grey, not transparent.
  • Go to the File menu and choose ’save texture as’.
  • … the rest of the process should be familiar. ;)
  • This just gets better & better. Eloh Eliot has made the original .psd files of the skin textures available:

    Colours – Mix And Match!

There are people out there that find creating colour schemes to be a bit of a challenge. I like to pretend that I am not one of these people, but sadly I probably am. I don’t feel too distressed by it though, as Cory Edo has confessed that she is not an expert at it either in a post in her blog.

Like most bloggers, Cory has kindly shared some resources to make this task a tiny bit easier: Kuler and COLOURlovers. The niftiest feature available on both of the websites would have to be the Photoshop Swatch (.ase) file. This means that you can place the colours right into your Swatches palette without having to use the eye drop tool to get the exact colour/shade. Hurray for features that make life easier! The least favourite feature both of the websites share is the fact that you are required to register with them in order to use them to their full potential.
